Patternmakers Rule!

Just wanted to wish a Fantastic Independence Day to all!

I was on the Gilmore (AS 16) in La Madd from '76-'78... and was given charge as ranking PM right out of "A" school.  A big thank-you to PMC Mirckey (sp) for his leadership!

I was assigned to R-1 Carpenter Shop (64 A) and later went to Rubber and Plastics (57 B).  I met a lot of great people co-ordinating with the  Tech Library, Foundry, Machine Shop and others.    There were some excellent R&R trips to Sicily, Cannes, Palma de Mallorca, Barcelona and a needed dry dock in Naples.   Several projects went to 6th fleet command and the incoming subs brought interesting challenges.  Parties at the Flathouse and traveling through Europe via rail were great fun.  The commissary fire, pier watches, and commie rallies in La Madd, not so much.

In '78, I joined the Fulton (AS 11) in New London.  I was pleased to be able to ramrod the Submarine Chaplin's Plaque under PM1 "Ducky" Hall.

In '79, it was time to join the reserves in Tucson.  As I was a patternmaker, C.O. Lane requested a concept logo from me for Tucson Naval Reserves.  I guess my roadrunner wearing a dixiecup, Mom/anchor tattoo, sajuaro cactus and mountains in the distance is still found on coffee mugs and t-shirts.

May you all find fair breezes to your back and calm seas!
