Memorial Day

Another year zips by and we have to be reminded to remember those that are no longer with us. We aren't reminded in ways like a phone call or text message from others, but by all the BS Memorial Day sales events. To me, it makes the time that much more sad. I, personally, never will remember family and/or friends lost by a sales event. It's not enough that we lose a loved one but to mark a day of remembrance with BS events, is obscene. And I'm sure that loved ones that I have lost would never want to be remembered by the slashed prices on new cars or the "great" deals you can get on yard furniture.I've wrote this short blog to let friends/family of mine, know that I will always remember those that are no longer around me, physically. I will always believe that they are still with me regardless. They will always hold a special place in my heart. And God forbid, should anyone reading this should pass before me..........KNOW THIS...........you, too, will always remain by my side, as you did in the physical sense. And hopefully, you will feel the same about me. Why? That's the NON-BS side of Memorial Day. That's why we have the holiday. For all those that have gone..........God Bless You and if possible, look over me and help me to remain the person that you loved and called friend.Dutch

  • Brother Dutch, I'm with you. Every time I even look at Ol' Glory on days like this or here taps being played I just can't hold the emotions back that my ancestors have instilled in me about the subect of Veterans, mostly the ones who gave all. Just ashame that this younger generation will never really know, unless we keep telling and showing them. God Bless all of us Brothers and Sisters, and help us carry the torch for those of us who didn't have the chance to grow old in the country we love so much. I have very mixed emotions about this subject, after what we have been slapped in the face with this year. Have a good day my Brothers & Sisters.
  • Thank you, gentlemen, for your comments.
  • I stand by my original statement...........It is truly sad. We are always being told that children are the future...........the future leaders of this and other countries...............the future that HAS to be taught correctly while they are young. Makes sense, right? If we teach them incorrectly or give them wrong facts on things, they will take that as gospel and pass on what they were taught. Not unlike we were. Can you say,"The world is a change in progress?" It is! Jim, only the "brightest of TV personalities" are picked for early morning shows. Why? they have the smallest veiwing audience. There's a reason behind that. I saw a show this weekend, showing most embarrassing moments on TV. They showed a clip about a news show (I believe in Sacramento, Calif.) that was giving the news on Halloween morning. Some local people were going to come on air promoting a benefit for a needy cause and were to be dressed up like monsters and zombies. Two of the personallities totally freaked. One ran of screen and the other fell out of her chair, and wound up under their onscreen desk, on her rear.............HIDING!!!!!! The other two were so shocked, they just ducked down. Jeez!!!
  • Our Schools no longer teach the meanings of either Memorial Day od Veterans day. I have 2 daughters ages 17 and 12 and neither onr of them has been taught anything about thes 2 days. BTW, according to The Early Show it is officially grilling season.
  • Amen Dutch!
