General question.

When I turned 65 I applied for soc security and expected some from the Navy as I served 3yrs and nine months plus two years reserve. The answer, no records of my time due to a 1979 fire in the records division. Help!John Paiva

  • Although I would like to have gotten money, that's not really my issue. Now at 73, health is a very big issue. As I have no proof other than a graduation photo and some boot camp photos, I'm not eligible for veterans administration help. Apparently many guys lost out. Although I've not had personal contact with any other military with this particular problem.
  • social security should show it I believe, a few years ago they sent me a form showing deductions all the way back to 1953 when I was working as a kennel boy.

It showed the yearly deductions I think until I turned 65

  • If you had social security withheld from your wages in the Navy, social security office should have a record of those payments made to them. You don't need to get anything from the Navy. I'm not sure, but I don't think that they witheld any money from me for social security/medicare when I was in.
