Hello to all
I was stationed aboard the USS America CVA-66 from Dec. 1970 till Sept.1972 G-1 Division. I left the ship on our mail plane (COD) while at Yankee Station in the Tonkin Gulf and landed in DaNang, Air Base in transient to San Francisco for separation. What I would like to find out has anyone else during their Vietnam duty left their ship while on station and went to Vietnam? and if so how did you show or prove to VA that it happen that way. My problem is my DD214 says served IRVN, and my personnel files show leaving the ship and being processed 5 days later in San Diego, and nothing about in DaNang. I have tried many different avenues with no real answers.
