1979-82 Aboard Coral Maru

I was BM1 when I checked aboard just 2 weeks prior to workups for Iran Hostage Deal.Had alot of work to do as no one had been to sea together before, because Coral Maru had spent 3 yrs of overhaul  in Bremerton, The Crew members  had never been to sea together as a crew, most had never stood watches at sea.Fortunately SOLDIER OF FORTUNE Magazine had just did a layoutwith silhouettes of the Soviet Navy ships, I zeroxed them laminated them and posted them onall the watch stations....it…See More

USS Coral Sea (CV/CVB/CVA-43), a Midway-class aircraft carrier, was the second ship of the United States Navy to be named for the Battle of the Coral Sea. She earned the affectionate nickname "Ageless Warrior" through her long career.

"First time in Subic was the fall of 81 and then the spring of 82, then again in 86 and 88. My normal hangout was Sonny's New Place on George street or the VFW."
