Passing of a shipmate

Posted on February 22, 2017 at 3:58pm 0 Comments

It is with great sadness that I have just learned of the passing of yet another shipmate. PRC Kenneth Owen Getchey. Kenny stayed the 20 plus. I just learned of his passing earlier this month through the internet. Ken passed away back in 2007. Yeah, 10 years ago. How time flies. You young guys and girls in uniform will soon learn as you grow older, you lose touch as the 4 winds scatter you and your friends to all corners of the earth. You lose touch. Fortunately for me, I found my shipmates…

Looking for anyone that served in the Aircraft Maintenance Division at NAS Norfolk between 1966 and 1969. Especially the Parachute Loft in hanger LP-14.

Announce the passing of a friend and shipmate

Posted on July 16, 2014 at 7:29pm 0 Comments

It is with deep regret and sorrow that I announce the passing of PR Master Chief Morris Turnage. Chief Turnage and I served together at NAS NORVA for many years. My sincerest condolences to his widow and family. He was a true friend and shipmate.   Rest in Peace my brother until we meet on the other side.

Paraloft?  Guess who I just ran into on Facebook...  Sergeant Bruce Hiltner U.S.M.C. and he worked for the Gunny there.  A hell of a nice jar head.  He was shot down twice in the Nam.  If you remember Hiltner do a Facebook search for his name.  BTW he lives near Philly.

I forget the squadron name.  I was in the same old hanger as the ADJ's but was not at squadron level. I was intermediate level.   The electronics and radar shops were in the hanger.  Most of the planes were E2C Hawkeye's.

After a year or so I helped wire all the benches in the new electronics shop that was built.  My barracks was across from the Marine transit barracks.
