It's amazing to me that a 1sts were immediately blessed with all the leadership skills the day they sew the stripes on. Some actually had the skills, but many others came up woefully short. Maybe times have changed since the '60s. I remember having…

Lamm was my first powerplants chief on Forrestal in '71. Kind of a goofball from what I remember but I was a young pup at that time so any chief was nuts I guess. The lifer 1st's and 2nd's in the shop were the good guys .

There isn't a "Godfrey," "Williams," or "Jenkins" in the cruise book, but there is a "Lamm" that I remember. He was E-6 at the time, but evidently made Chief later on. All I remember about Lamm is him talking about takin' a piss after sex to keep fr…

Great story Kim. Too bad nobady took a picture of your face when that turtle back went sailing. I can imagine how my old shop chief, Al Kanode may have reacted. I guess you can laugh about it now but at the time, I'm sure it wasn't funny.

I'll have to check the cruise book for that, Kim. The names don't sound familiar, but I was in the Line Crew on the Connie. I was about the smallest Plane Captain in the crew and there was a time when some dumbass chained an F-4 to hatches on the ha…

Staige, Did you have an ADJ-1 Godfrey with you on the Connie? He was my first supervisor on the Fid on '71 Med cruise. Was a great guy. Also some of the lifer types were Chief Lamm, Adj-2 Williams and Adj-2 Jenkins and Adj-1 McMillen all good guys a…

Where were you or your family stationed?
I began my adventure in company 127 at RTC Orlando. Went to A school in Millington (NATTC Memphis) to learn/earn rate of ADJ. Onward to VA42 Framp (NAS Oceana) to get acquanted with A-6E's and KA6D's and then ultimately to VA-85. I experienced the Line division for awhile and eventually transferred to the PowerPlants shop. Although mainly based at NAS Oceana, our squadron deployed aboard USS Forrestal (CV-59) as required.

I consider myself fortunate to have participated in flight operations and exercises conducted in Puerto Rico and Cuba. I've also had the opportunity to serve aboard USS FORRESTAL during numerous deployments from 1976 through 1979. Obviously, the Tall Ships (OPNAVSAIL '76) and the '78 Med Cruise were most memorable; Harry Chapin, the Haiti Experience, Palma, Naples, Marseille, Torremolinos, Valencia, Capri, and a few cold ones with our former XO, "Zap" (Admiral, USN Retired) to name a few. But one experience I'll never forget, was that cat shot to Sigenella field for attack exercises against the FID. Awesome!

So dust off that cruise book or photo album and travel down memory lane every now and then. It's all good.

Never mind Al. I found the information and it sounds like my free weekend. My wife Michelle just gave me the thumbs up so we will see.
Things at work are tuff so I would play it by ear and make no reservations until I am sure I can go. What about you?

Yes, his name was John. I sent him the link so I don't know when he will get it. I do not remember Joe Angle. Maybe I was at S-6 supply when he was there. I was always getting shipped out lol

Same with me. We are int he process of acquiring vacation property via a short sale in Ft. Myers and it may conflict. It will be a last minute thing for me as much as I really want to go.

Just Buz, he is in Fla. I will send him the link to join here. I thought I knew your name. Buz got a hold of my father a few years after I got out and we got back in touch. We have met a few times since the Navy. He stayed in for 20.
