Thanks Kim. Trying to get this put together will be quite a challenge so anyone with a talent would be welcome to help. Hopefully travel plans won't fizzle out, but we'll talk soon.

Hey Al, Good point. However, I only have one spouse ( I realize you are mean more than one attendee, It is too easy to be a smart alec). The penalty for bigamy is two wives. Later, Mac

I'm thinking this year for the unofficial get-together. I know it's short notice. If you would like your spouses to accompany you, by all means, bring them. I, myself will most likely go it alone. As much as I would like my wife to come, she would m…

I began my adventure in company 127 at RTC Orlando. Went to A school in Millington (NATTC Memphis) to learn/earn rate of ADJ. Onward to VA42 Framp (NAS Oceana) to get acquanted with A-6E's and KA6D's and then ultimately to VA-85. I experienced the Line division for awhile and eventually transferred to the PowerPlants shop. Although mainly based at NAS Oceana, our squadron deployed aboard USS Forrestal (CV-59) as required.

I consider myself fortunate to have participated in flight operations and exercises conducted in Puerto Rico and Cuba. I've also had the opportunity to serve aboard USS FORRESTAL during numerous deployments from 1976 through 1979. Obviously, the Tall Ships (OPNAVSAIL '76) and the '78 Med Cruise were most memorable; Harry Chapin, the Haiti Experience, Palma, Naples, Marseille, Torremolinos, Valencia, Capri, and a few cold ones with our former XO, "Zap" (Admiral, USN Retired) to name a few. But one experience I'll never forget, was that cat shot to Sigenella field for attack exercises against the FID. Awesome!

So dust off that cruise book or photo album and travel down memory lane every now and then. It's all good.

Hey Al,

Thanks buddy. It has been a long time since someone called me Mac (except my wife). Kinda cool. This a great site. I forgot how much the Tankin 85th and all you scoundrels meant to me. Your pictures bring back lots of memories. I got to dig through my stuff and find mine and post them. Now that I'm a roll, what's the best way to start getting in touch with the guys?

Thanks again, it is good to hear from you.

Hey Alan I forgot to mention that USAA insurance company, remember them. They use to only insure Officers. Now they insure retiree's and just recently anybody who has served in the Military. You might want to check them out. My insurance payment with two cars is cheap. They also offer savings and checking accounts, and you never have to pay a ATM fee they refund it back to you. There website is USAA.com. If your approved for there Visa, they allow you to take a picture of your check you're depositing with your Iphone and the check is automatically deposited in your account. FYI !

Hi Al,

Thanks for the email. I still had a good friend that was still there during your time with VA-85. He was PR2 Paul Foltz. He and I enlisted in the Navy on the buddy program and did our first tour with this squadron. Still looking to contact fellow shipmates, but it's been hard tracking them down. Going to make contact with Mike Walsh, but would like to find a guy by the name of Bailey. Anyone know him?

Al, love your pictures of the Forrestal and the aircraft. I just wish I would of taken pictures while I was there.

Talk to you later,
John

Never mind Al. I found the information and it sounds like my free weekend. My wife Michelle just gave me the thumbs up so we will see.
Things at work are tuff so I would play it by ear and make no reservations until I am sure I can go. What about you?
