Yeah, laundry was important! In Viet Nam you had to make sure you had your number stamped on everything or you would never see it again. It was more important than your ID# or your SSN! I still remember mine - AH 3567 - and all the fatigue shirts and shorts were ironed with rice starch that gave off a funny odor. I was on a landing craft for a few months in 1967 going up and down the coast from Da Nang delivering stuff for the marines. We bunked below decks and ate aboard but most trips were less than two or three days so we didn't have do much else.
Ah, those concrete scrubbing tables! Funny thing is that after boot there weren't any of those things on board ships! Actually there was a laundry to do your wash for you! LOL
