  • And yet, some things don't! I still prefer the comfort of being nestled in my little berth just outside Sickbay! There's something about the feeling of swinging in a hammock those steel boxes can't replace!

  • Thanks Jim. Seemed like just yesterday I was in the Navy. How things change.

  • Doug, here is an open view of the rack. You can see a lock box behind that panel. My "guess" is that is an access door for valuables. The buttons or what looks like a slide to me could be a combination lock system.

Robin, it appears the "new" Navy has upgraded things a "little" for today's sailors!

  • was this on a sub? I never had racks like that on the many ships I served on
  • Thanks, I though the letters were some sort of rack ID system.

Now can any tell me what the little drawer next to it is? Has some push buttons on it.
  • Doug, the orange thingy is the "Emergency Escape Breathing Device". The EEBD sign gave it away!

  • Never had bunks like this in troops berthing on the amphibs I was on. What is the orange thing and the small door to it's left with what looks like a push button lock release?
