The left side gun had a mis-fire and the gun mount was cleared out of personnel just before the bomb from the MIG hit the portside deck next to the gun mount. The bomb blew up in the handling room under the gun mount. It also ripped a hole in the bottom of the ship, disabeling the port side screw propellor and rupturing the fuel tanks in that area of the ship. The crew's berthing area was also flooded with fuel and sea water. Some guys lost everything they had.
