  • I was there from July 9 1971 until September 11, 1971, Company 214, Sam Deaton BT-1 as CC, New barracks which are not in this picture.

  • Camp Nimitz...Special Company 944; Company Commander, Signalmen Chief Simmons. 944 was Chief Simmons last group. It was easy, and boy did we get around everything (and everyone!). I was in charge of "theiving" on Nimitz-side, and became LPO/ALPO. Lpo came down sick, so I took over knowing both his and my commands. "Runners...POST!"
  • Fall of 72! In Nimitz we were in building 73, which is actually still there in use by the Fire Dept. Once we went over to the other side I was in one of those "special" companies, 941. I was in the Bluejacket Choir.

On one of those trips across the bridge one day, a seagull up on one the lamp posts sent a present down onto my shoulder! The CC, after he finished laughing said "OK, DeCota you've been sh..t on enough today, I'll give you a break for today!"

  • Yeah, the only good part was being able to "break stride" on the bridge where it didn't matter. When were you there? I was in Company 583, fall of 1967.
  • The difference in our marching in formation ability from here to the other side was amazing! When marching in Nimitz it seemed no one ever knew their left from their right!
