Invited to RTC Orlando for boot camp on Christmas Eve 1970, where the new boots were greeted with champagne, barbeque and smiling, friendly faces.  Well, maybe not.  Onward to ET-A in Treasure Island and eventually the mighty USS Kansas City (AOR-3) in 1973.  Life was great!  Which is why I bitched about it all day every day.

RTC Orlando, Sep. - Dec. 1973.  We were a drill company and were the first to have basic extended from 8 to 16 weeks.  Glory!

This is for James K. Hammons.   I was in RTC Orlando from May 31-July 20 1975, Company 509.  I don't remember my Company Commanders name but he was a big tall Texan from Denton Texas.  Probably 75% of us were from Texas.  Just thought i would say hey!
