I served on a Gator Freighter (Spartanburg County LST 1192) from 84 to 88 and was caught up in one of the first phases of of the Gulf War but it seems that the government doesn't recognize anything prior to Aug 92.

Anyone else here in the same boat? (no pun intended)

I served aboard the USNS Comfort Hospital Ship during Desert Shield/Desert Storm. Spent most of the time cutting circles near Qatar before Desert Storm began. I was an HM1 but was assigned to the Master-at-Arms force on board since I worked in law enforcement in civilian life. So much for my HM training!!

I spent a year out there on the La Salle, 78-79.  There were a bunch of decent port calls, as an electrician we had to rig the ships lights for every port, I volunteered pull them up since I could be up on the mast and take all of the pictures I wanted, sort of a waste, they were lost to a house fire in '89.  The most exciting thing was when the Shah of Iran, and most of our diplomats were asked to leave. The LaSalle became a refugee camp for a couple of days.

I enjoyed Bahrain, and loved the Gold Markets. Would love to go back to Oman too

Mark A. Ogden Proudly served but gave up much to do so.  As his daughter and living with the effects.... He has passed on to a better place but know that you are not forgotten. There has been a whole generation (X) that will NEVER forget. it wasn't just your war Our hearts were with you always and still
