SW2 Mellisa Smith/Stuckert served 1988 - 1991 in PWT, PWM, and TAD to Base Police. Had a blast there and got to meet alot of wonderful people both on and off base. It was sad to watch the barracks go down. Just wished that I had spent more time exploring off the Avalon Peninsula.

Stationed at the Naval Facility in Argentia from 1972 to 1974.  It was a really great duty station.  The Newfoundlanders were really wonderful people.  You could have people taken out, thrown into the ocean for a bottle of Captain Morgan rum- a 40 ouncer of course.

Hated when the wind blew and it snowed sideways which was most of the time.  there was an overpass heading out to the NavFac from the Naval Station.  Can't tell you how many cars ever got stuck in that thing... when they would come thru with the snow plows, there was usually a thud.

I believe we made history in Argentia.  There was the Naval Station and the Naval Facility.  The CPO club was in an old barracks and the O club was nice, shiney and new.  The Chiefs had a LOT of money because the Newfoundlanders came to our club, ate, drank and played the slots.  The O club was broke.  At one point the CO of the Naval Station decided to combine the O club and CPO club- believe that was in 1972!  I had been the emcee for the CPO club functions and continued that task in the combined club.

Did many things there and my XO, LCDR J.A. Daniel Smith was a mustang and probably the best CO/XO I ever had the pleasure to serve with.  He kept me jumping as I was the Training Chief in communications, did TechControl taught the NavFac officers how to do the off line crypto, Educational Services, and one day, the XO walked up- put the CMA badge on my desk and said simply: "Chief, you are now the station Chief Master at Arms."  I said XO- I have lots on my plate already- his reply was- you can handle it and walked away..

I was an EN at the FAC; 1977 to 1979. Great Memories of the good times and good friends. And some pretty "skate" duty.

I was a corpsman and was in Argentia in 1958 and 1959. I was there at the same time as Bill Cosby. I will always remember the 2 years as 2 of the best years of my life.

I was an ET at the RATCC.  Apr 67 - Sep 69.  Made Chief in ARG.  When did it become a NAS?  I was under the impression that it was a NS  Naval Station.
