Your Best Liberty / Port O' Calls

I only had two places for liberty back in the day.  Olongapo and Singapore.  But what a liberty I had in those fine cities.

Never got to Europe, or Australia, or other places of the world.  But happy with what I had.

Rock us, or should I say Billy Goat Butt us, with a few of your favorites!

  • Olongapo. Perth was great, but short. Olongapo was kinda WESTPAC home.

  • Olongapo was the hottest. But like RM1 Lewis, I liked any port that allowed us off the ship!
Hong Kong and Yokosuka for buying stuff. Busan, Okinawa, and Olongapo for the girls.
But as our WestPac detachment headquarters, Subic Bay had the best barracks and chow hall!
(As TAD boat crews, we lived off the ship in Subic Bay)
  • Any port we happened to pull into was a good liberty port.  Kingston Jamaica was good back in 1962.

  • You mean best places? I hope your time in Asia wasn't totally in only two ports!
    • Yes Douglas.  Yes it was.  Olongapo/Subic was a year long liberty when I was stationed there.  Still recovering from that, HA!

On the Big E, Singapore, Olongapo, and Yankee Station were our only hang outs back then.  Seemed it was the only time we had for anyway.

Big E was the last year of my enlistment.  So I was out of time.
