Got to spend a great deployment with my command, VP-44 back in 1981. One of the greatest places I have ever been. It was actually a split deployment..........Rota and Lajes, Azores. Got to spend several days in Lajes as well. Lajes had a bar that if I remember correctly, was called "George the Crooks". A must go place if you are there. Anybody else go to either Rota or Lajes?
