I made HM3 in the 1978. I was not aware of the custom of tacking on the crow. I got a call to the personal office and met a line of Petty Officers. I was set firmly against the wall and my Crow was put on my shoulder. Each PO puched my crow on with a very firm fist. I was pround to recieve the honor. To day over Thrity years later I still have the natural tattoo on my shoulder in the form of a Crow and it's rank Chevron. The thumb print of the guy who held my to the wall is still there too!.. Too bad I hear such traditons are passing away. I were it with pride.

I have pictures of my father making his shell back in the fifties... any comments?

  • My son just got his crow. I'm looking forward to tacking it on.
