On April 1959, I joined the Navy in Corpus Christi, Texas. I was sent to boot camp at San Diego. From there, I went to Hospital Corps school at USNH Balboa. I was there from July 1959 through November 1959. I was then sent to USNH Portsmouth, VA where my first assignment was the General Surgery ward in the old original main building on the point. After working various wards and moving into the then brand new hospital building, I went to Medical Laboratory School. I was there from February 1961 until April 1962. After graduating, I was sent to the Naval Weapons Station in Yorktown, VA. I was there until my discharge in April 1963.
