  • i have been trying for two years to get compensation and pension from the va for something that happened to me in 1966 aboard the uss great sitkin ae 17.we had ammo break loose on the main deck in the middle of the night,500-1000 lbs. 5inshells as well as the fork trucks and fork truck batteries.i as well as a few other guys tried to wrestle the ammo and get it tied down and stable, the reason the ammo broke loose is that we were told the ship took a bad list(37degrees).but it seems to me that i was walking half on the deck and half on the bulkhead.i wound up with a hernia on my right side while getting the ammo tied down and spent 10 days in st.albans hospital in queens new york.when i first applied for benefits the navy told me i they had no record of the ammo breaking loose or me spending 10 days in the hospital.i had to track down the medical records myself, and it also helped that my younger brothe was on the ship as well as me keeping in touch with a few guys from the ship.i am trying to get a pension and compensation from the va for ptsd and the scar as well as the staples that are inside the right side of my abdomen.i have the american legion representing me but mthis has been going on for two years.anybody have any suggestions.thanks francis mickey doyle.
