What did you test?

VX-1 was and remains a cutting edge commend. Much of the technologies developed at the command remain secret, others have made their way into the civilian world such as FLIR and GPS. What can you talk about?

  • I was with VX-1 in the late 60s, early 70s and they had the P3 Orion, S2 Tracker and the SH3 Sea King. I was on the S2 check crew though supported all three while I was there. ATs back in those days were designated ATN (Navigation) or ATR (Radar), I was an ATR so I supported the AN/APS-38 radar system and was also trained on the AN/ASQ-8 MAD system. Though being on the check crew I supported all the avionics.

    • I was stationed at VX-1 1999 to 2001. W worked on P-3's S-3's and H-60 B,F, and H. We developed the hellfire missile array and forward looking infrared for the H-60s and were among the first to operate the MH-60S, with "glass cockpit" avionics. We also worked to repurpose ASW systems toward mine countermeasure operations.
