  • Reported aboard in Oct of 1979 as a lowly E-1 awaiting AE A school. Worked in AIMD Avionics Shop. Went through one yard period in Portsmith ship yard and a North Atlantic crew where I earned my Blue Nose. Went to A school in May of 1980. Served with some great people for a first command.

  • Reported aboard as a new CWO2 in 93, incharge of weapons magazines and flightdeck ordnance.

  • Stationed on board Sept 85- Jan 88.
  • Though I was Mount Whitney ships company I did go TAD with Comsecondflt in 87, while the Whitney was in dry dock. Comsecondflt made The Saipan his Flagship...I got to sail to Nassau Bahamas with the Saipan. I believe we were there for about 2 months...sad to hear she was decommissioned and later on turned into scrap.
  • The Saipan has left the Philadelphia Naval Shipping Yard and is heading to Texas to be scrapped. Sad times.
  • Th Saipan was my first command straight out of Great Mistakes... 'eh Great Lakes! I worked the flight deck and loved my job! Nothing like being an Airdale.
  • was my first command i went to 1987-1990
