Politics

I am a political junkie. The years that I served aboard Prairie, we had probably the worst President ever but now I am not sure about that. We may have a tie with Carter and Obama. I just hate the way Obama is acting in office. He is playing the Chicago Style politcal games without the baseball bat. If you don't like someone or something that someone has done, you just smash them down. Case in point is the Medical products manufacturers. They didn't go along with the socialized medicene that the Libs are trying to push onto this country so in the healthcare bill, the medical products manufacturers are taxed. That means that if you have a hearing aid, you pay a tax on it.

If anyone wants to comment on this or other things, please do that. I am sure that I don't have the only opinion on this site.

  • That is right - I will say it - THANK GOD FOR BARACK OBAMA!

He destroyed the Clinton Political Machine - Driving a stake thru the heart
of Hillary's Presidential aspirations - something no Republican was ever
able to do. Remember when a Hillary Presidency scared the daylights out of
    you!

He killed off the Kennedy Dynasty - No more Kennedy's trolling Washington
looking for booze and women wanting rides home. American women and Freedom
    are safer tonight!

He is destroying the Democratic Party before our eyes!

Dennis Moore had never lost a race - quit

Evan Bayh had never lost a race - quit

Byron Dorgan - had never lost a race - quit

Harry Reid - bid for re-election doesn't look good

These are just a handful of the Democrats that whose political careers Obama
has destroyed! By the end of 2010 dozens more will be!

In December of 2008 the Democrats were on the rise. In the last two
election cycles they had picked up 14 senate seats and 52 house seats. The
press was touting the death of the Conservative Movement and the Republican
    Party.

In one year Obama put a stop to all of this and will probably give the
house, if not the senate back to the Republicans.

He has completely exposed liberals and progressives for what they are.
Every Generation seems to need to relearn the lesson on why they should
never actually put liberals in charge. He is bringing home the lesson very
    well!

Liberals tax, borrow and spend - check

Liberals won't bring themselves to protect America - check

Liberals want to take over the economy - check

Liberals think they know what is best for everyone - check

Liberals aren't happy till they are running YOUR life -check

He has brought more Americans back to conservatism than anyone since Reagan.
In One year he rejuvenated the Conservative movement and brought out to the
streets millions of Freedom Loving Americans. Name me one other time in
your life that you saw your friends and neighbors this interested in taking
    back America!
In all honesty one year ago I was more afraid than I had ever been in my
life. Not of the economy but of the direction our country was going. I
thought Americans had forgotten what this country was all about. My
neighbors, friends, strangers proved to me that my lack of confidence of the
Greatness and Wisdom of the American people was flat out wrong.

When the American People wake up, no smooth talking teleprompter reader can fool them! Barack Obama woke up these Great Americans!

Again I want say Thank you Barack Obama!
  • Hi Joel! Tom Holderfield here. Served on Prairie in the early 80s. I like politics too but we are on opposite ends of the spectrum. I used to be a conservative while in the Navy and voted for Reagan both times, etc. However, as conservatism has pretty much been beat to death with the passing of William F. Buckley, Reagan, et. al. and as I have lived many more years now, I am now an extremely left-wing, progressive liberal. As is all my family. We all love Obama and are mad at him now for being so nice to the Republicans and not bringing the change we all voted for fast enough. That is, he is not liberal enough for most progressives! And he is defintiely not a "socialist". But, the is all we have right now so we will all still be voting for him in 2012 and for all Democrats in all other races this year and in 2012.

Hopefully, our disagreement on these issues will not cause you to ignore me and we can have some good conversations! I truly love arguments (philosophical) as long as they are civil and fact-filled. The current poisonous atmosphere, mostly on the extreme right-wing (the Teabaggers), does not involve reasoned discussions anymore and is causing everyone to lose faith in our political system. Some of the long-time Democrats are this way too. However, I feel the Teabaggers are promoting an ideology that has the potential to destroy our country. Although some in those crazed, gun-toting crowds may actually believe they are all about limited government, etc. they are overwhelmed by the vast majority of them who really are nothing more than un-educated, hate-filled racists. They are the Ku Klux Klan reborn without the robes and with the cover of feingned patriotism.

I get my news online mostly or from MSNBC. My favorite commentators are Ed Shultz, Rachel Maddow and Keith Olbermann. I have all Fox channels blocked on my TVs so that none of us accidentally channel surf to them (have to protect my children you know), I am fully in support of Obama's health care reform plans but feel the current version is way too weak. I prefer the Public Opion as a temporary compromise but really would rather see Single-Payer, also known as "Medicare for All". I believe health care is a right, not just a privilege for the rich. The most powerful country on earth is losing its reputation due to our poor education system and laughable current health system, etc. Obama is helping to restore America's reputation around the world after Bush nearly destroyed it. And, he is providing money and support to the Veterans Administration like no one before him!

I believe that we must be honest about the costs of reform though. As the war is consuming way more money that any social programs ever would, that must definitely be brought to a close as soon as possible. Then, we construct the ideal health care system (public option or single payer), getting the rich Health care industry execs out of the picture, fix education, re-invigorate the space program (where all our innovation and new technology ideas come from, address global warming and climate change, promote labor unions, repair our infrastructure (bridges, highways, etc.), and take care of our poor and homeless and veterans. Then, we raise taxes (mostly on the rich) as necessary to pay for it. Simple.

I think many people, especially the teabaggers, are confused about the connection between the extreme version of Capitalism practiced over the last decade or so and our Country. Capitalism is just one of many economic systems and has little or nothing to do with our country's founding or principles. We did not have Capitalism in America until the late 1800s. The founding fathers would not support this economic system. It is cruel, unfair, and unjust. It takeds from the poor and middle classes and gives freely to the undeserving rich. It cracks me up when Teabaggers quote various Founding Fathers or Tom Paine. These guys really hated rich people lving off the toil of the poor. Their books, if read in their entirety (not just snippets), show this plainly. Even Adam Smith, the so-called founder of capitalism, had another book just as popular decrying the sort of system we have in place now.

Anyway, I get into this economic discussion just to point out that, for me, I do not care at all what various programs are called or which economic system they fall under, etc. That, to me, is irrelevant.

Unlike what many Teabaggers believe, I think our country is indeed on the virge of a revolution. But, a Liberal one, not a right wing one. The numbers are simply not there for the right wingers to ever really succeed again. Soon, the white population will be the minority in this country. The huge majorities that voted for Obama will grow larger over the coming years. There may be some changes this year as many people are fed up with the incumbents, but, after that, in 2012, I believe you will see a repeat of 2008. Especially since some of the Obama programs will have begun showing results by then.

OK, that was way too long. Hopefully, this will give you something to reply to! I look forward to it!

    Tom
