USS Edson (DD-946) was a Forrest Sherman-class destroyer of the United States Navy, built by Bath Iron Works in Maine in 1958. Her home port was Long Beach, California and she initially served in the Western Pacific/Far East, operating particularly in the Taiwan Strait and off the coast of Vietnam.

hull dd 945

i was on the hull dd945,san diego,from oct 1959 til my discharge , july 1963many taiwan straits duty days! time in kaoshung! remember a bm came back,climed rat line ,fwd,took fosule wathes m1 and started shooting,the engineering office was oow,shot in side,pow was , ist class?,shot in leg,which he lost later,took a .45 to put him down,i was on watch in fwd fireroom,gen quaters was sounded,the main hatch came out at sickbay,the bad guy was in a litter,blood everwheregot many more stories!terry
