Training Squadron TWENTY-TWO was first formed on 13 June 1949 at Naval Air Station, Corpus Christi, Texas, to furnish jet transitional training for newly designated naval aviators. Designated Advanced Training Unit SIX (ATU-6), it received its first aircraft, a TV-1, in July of that year. This was the first unit in the training command to instruct in jet aircraft.

  • I was with VT 22 from 1967 to 1971 working in power plants shop and flew flight checks in TF 9J cougars and TA 4J sky hawks. It was a top knotch squadron then. I loved flying with CDR Paul Strong ,who is a great guy.
