  • I have a second Facebook page called 'Pacemaker Fitron 121', a closed group. Some members go back to 1960. Click 'join' and I'll approve you. We have about 35 members now.

  • Was a Pacemaker from 78-80 when they decommissioned. Then I went down the street to The Bandits, VF-126 from 80-82.

  • I encourage any and all of you with Facebook accounts to Visit the 'Fitron 121' page. I've posted many pictures of various squadron aircraft during its renaming from VF-781 during the Korean conflict. You may be able to connect with some past members you worked with. Also posted are links to past officers.

  • 22 Dec 1969. A dark day at Miramar.

  • Do you know when the crash happened in 1869,   I got out early 69 and my memory needs a jumpstart.

  • Does anyone remember the hanger crash Dec 69? I have posted pictures and articles from the San Diego Union Newspaper and the base paper. I was deployed to El Centro for pilot landing practice. That day was our last day there. Some aircraft that were in the landing orbit were diverted as the base was closed down . An A-7 landed at El Centro. I asked the pilot what happened, He replied there was a crash. We ere  able to return to Miramar at 1700. The fires were extinguished and all damaged aircraft had been removed from the hanger. I remember the odor in the air remained for some time. An ejection seat had gone through the roof and landed in the officer parking lot.

  • This looks like a small group with little to say but i will put a little age and info into it.   Joined the Navy in 1959 and went to 121 out of boot camp in February 1960.  Was there for four years then other VF F4 squadrons and back in 1965/66 .  Qual time on every Carrier on the west cost during the 60s.   Had my first plane ride in a F9 at night at the old age of 17.   If anyone is interested there is a good story about that and the second ride also.  Got out in 69 and 17 years later joined the Navy Reserve and retired in 2002 at the age of 59.  Two wars, Bay of Pigs, Vietnam and Desert Storm etc..  Lot of memories, some good, some bad.

  • Thank you all for Serving.

  • Hey, Barry I was there as well as a PN3 and then made PN2. I was in the main office topside.

I was in VF-121 from Aug 68 to Feb 70. Made PC in 1969. Like most of all PC's I deployed to MCAS Yuma, Az., NAF El Centro, CA., QC deployments on Kitty Hawk, Constellation, Independence at NB Mayport, Fl. and  J.F. Kennedy at NB Norfolk, VA. On the Kennedy we had chill factor of -60 for the week. The harbor was covered in ice. I enjoyed each deployment.
