I was born at NAVHOSP GLAKES in 1974 while my dad was stationed there. 18 years later I returned for boot camp, "A" school, and "C" school as an Engineman
Had my appendix removed there in Feb. 1971. Ended up having cardiac arrest post op. (too much anesthesia they said) went on to serve 9 years w three VN tours. Still alive at 59 I guess I can just caulk it up to an interesting experience.
I was Med-Evaced to Great Lakes after being wounded in Vietnam in 1968. Following my medical release, I was assigned to the "Physical Exam Section" located in the main hospital. I was awarded the 'Silver Star' at the Hospital in March 1969 by the "Surgeon General of the Navy," VAdm. George M. Davis (See Photo)
I came from the Fleet and went to A Scool, the, because of previous military and civilian medical experience, went to report in at NRMC GLAKES and was promptly stationed at RTC Recruit Dispensary 1017 until I went to the USS Long Beach.
hahaha i know that building,, not one i went to willingly lol
but did spend alot of time there in 05,, still looks the same as in the pics from 72,, i think that was the year listed below.
will never forget the breakfast i had there one morning,, man it kicked the pig out of anything in boot lol, ever since that day while in boot we did all we could to get over there in time for some grub lol.
office on one of the top floors was the first time i ever seen the sears tower, had to tell my doctor the history of the design of it, still dont think the believed me lol. was based on a soft pack of smokes when you hit the pack to get out a smoke lol.
good times,, first time i met an admiral was at that building, we was at the front door, pictured and found a hornets nest on the front door lol. well i picked the wrong person to say something to, as there back to me. lol opps
glad to be out of there but wish i was back
The photo of Bldg 200H is from December 1972, taken from the roof of Barracks 219H. We didn't get much snow that year.

Graduated Corps Schools November 1985. Lt. Sterling, HM1 Whitemountain, and HM1 Forrester were our instructors! They were the BEST!
