Last Duty Station

1975-1977 NAS CCTX Security Department - worked with Lt. Reynolds, Joe Olivetti with the FBI and Master at Arms Department. Traffic enforcement, base security patrols, drug enforcement, etc. Used to go out to the Admiral's Pier on the ammo dump and fish under the halogen drop lights. One night three of us (off duty of course) filled a pickup truck bed with about 150 lbs of specs. Took us all morning 8-12 to clean em. Hardest duty was to tell a Marine Corp Colonel that a dipshit Navy Ensign had exposed himself to the Colonel's 13 year old daughter and then try to keep the Ensign alive during the next 24 hours till we got him off base and in Beeville's Brig.

  • NAS Corpus was my last duty station also. I was stationed their from 1969 to 1974. I ran Discipline Office in Bldg 3 which is now the USO building. We processed an average of 200 prisonners a week since we had to take care of New Mexico, Okla, Ark, La., and of course Texas. We would get two vans full twice a week. We had the restriction barracks and the Brig. One of our CO;s had a idea that we would farm out some to the restricted personnel out to different departs, however the next morning we had a total of 100 restricted people gone, so that ended that program. I had a staff of 9 personnel and 1 civilian. CWO SCHMIDT was security officer when I was their. I went thru 4 CO's. When I first arrived the personnel office was in Bldg 1 and I had to work in the classified control for 6 months because all the classified material had not been work on for 6 months, I got rid of the 3rd class and sent back to personnel after the six months we finally got approval for a civil service to take over that service, thank got. One day the Discipline Officer and me was called indicating one of the prisonners had escape from the Brig and he was going up the water tower this was one scarry time because we had to go up the two ladders and talked him down. Security found out in 1971 or 72 that the Discipline Office, Restricted Barracks and the Brig was under Com 8 in New Orleans. So any problems that our personnel did something we was responsible for. I do not remember how many dress white I went through but it was interesting. Something diffierent every day. We was also the personnel offfice for Discipline People and it seemed like we were orphans because nobody seemed to care for especially when it came to budget time. NAS did not want to give us any alloted funds because we were attached to NAS and it took about 3 months to get any funds allocated to us.
Well shipmate that is all I am glad I found someone else that was stationed at NAS CORPUS

    • I worked for Lt. Reynolds, good guy and a good Navy Officer. Unfortunately we both worked for an idiot Cdr Smith, XO of NAS. It was, as you say, a very interesting job.
