  •  I was with HS-12 from 89 till 92.

  • Carl Barrett, UTC, USN (Ret) I was stationed with Public Works Department at NAS Atsugi from 1961-64. Great tour of duty, was attached to Maintenance and Contracts Divisions, was also a member of the hunting club while I was there. The only station I had my family with me in my 21 years of active service.

  • I just joined Navy Veterans and Atsugi NASNAF group. I was there from Feb 1967 to May 1970 and part of the Weapons Department and worked at the AUW shop next to the mine shop. in addition to cold war ASW operations, the biggest operations were in support of the USS  Pueblo crisis and VQ1's loss of a WillyVictor aircraft shot down by the North Koreans.

It was a memorable time and I enjoyed living on the beach in Yamato

  • I was there from jan. 1983-june 1985. public works, ut3

  • I came aboard August 2007 with HSL-51 and retired there August 2008.

  • My best friend while I was in Atsugi was Ron Ely.  We got ourselves in all sorts of trouble, but had a lot of fun.  When I left there in 66', I lost contact with Ron.  I recently made contact with him again.  He lives in San Antonio, TX, and we spoke quite awhile on the phone.  He retired from Catipillar, and went to work for the Japanese Catipillar Co., and had to make a trip to Japan.  He sent me an email while he was there, along with a picture of the Front Gate of Atsugi Naval Station.  He stated a Chief on the base gave him a tour of the base which he said was absolutely fascinating.  He said that it looks nothing like it did 50 years ago.  I would have liked to see that myself.

  • When I left NALF KISARAZU in 69, I transfered to the transit line, keeping the CO's S2F in top shape so he could get his hours in every month.  That got me flight-skins and a few extra bucks a month too.

  • I arrived in Atsugi in Oct 63 as a ADJAA.  I was ordered to COMFAIRWESTPAC, and assigned to NIPPI on the Marine Corps side of the airfield.  I spent 1 year there working for Master Chief Richard Dunn, as his gofer.  I then received new orders to NAS Atsugi, and was assigned to the Transit Line Division, which was located right next door to the Control Tower.  I was there 2 years before I receive orders out.  Loved every minute of it!!

  • I was a Mine Man, Mar, 1954- Aug 1955.
