The VA-55 Warhorses were based out of NAS Oceana at Va. Bch., VA at hanger 122.  The Squadron was assigned to USS Coral Sea (CVA-43) homeport at NAS Norforlk Naval Ship Yard. 

First VA-55: established as Torpedo Squadron 5 (VT-5) on February 15, 1943 redesignated Attack Squadron 6A (VA-6A) on November 15, 1946 redesignated Attack Squadron 55 (VA-55) on August 16, 1948 disestablished on December 12, 1975    Second VA-55: established as Attack Squadron 55 (VA-55) on October 7, 1983 disestablished on January 1, 1991.  The A-4 was Retired in 2003 for the USN and the A-6E was Retired in 1997.
